ALKOOMI Wines and Bay Merchants combined last
Friday night for their second sundowner event as part
of 2010 Taste Great Southern.
Rare, cellared Alkoomi Frankland River wines were
matched with delicious Bay Merchants’ tapas made
from the finest local ingredients to present a taste sen-
sation readily enjoyed by participants in a marquee in
a park on Adelaide Crescent.
To music produced by Rod Vervest and Rob Lipinski,
guests sat down to enjoy the tapas which were served
on specially designed wooden platters with space for
Alkoomi general manager Rick Hoyle-Mills said the
concept for the sundowner developed from the idea of
simply matching the wines.
But he said Bay Merchants owner Trish Flowers said
they had to be brilliant wines to match the flavours of

restaurants with their own cellars.”
The wines included a 2004 riesling for the Albany
oysters, a 2004 Wandoo semillon for the tartlet of
locally farmed trout and figs, a 2002 Blackbutt for a
Ringwould cendre stack with chorizo and caramelised
beetroot, and a liqueur muscat to accompany the choco-
late pudding with Willow Creek raspberries.
